The cover of the latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation
It's always a sad day when a good old fashioned gaming magazine decides to call it quits. Dengeki PlayStation, a PlayStation-specific publication that has tracked the brand's every move for 26 years, has revealed that its final issue (volume 686) will arrive in March.
We remember a simpler time when the monthly Japanese magazine was considered something of a holy grail of gaming here in the West – a ubiquitous source of PlayStation information just because it was Japanese, and therefore filled with wonder and mystery. But times change, and like so many other print publications, Dengeki PlayStation has struggled to maintain its relevance in an age when the internet is king. However, it is really a shame to hear that it is done.
Dengeki PlayStation will continue to exist as part of the Japanese Dengeki Online website, however, where its PlayStation-related articles will continue to coincide with coverage of other gaming platforms. The post also didn't rule out limited releases in the future.
Either way, we highly recommend doing a Google image search for Dengeki PlayStation. Even if you can't read Japanese, some of these covers are downright glorious.
