Annual community meeting Blizzard, although the last editions took place in a completely digital format due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2022 edition will unfortunately not take place. According to the studio, this decision was made in order to reimagining what BlizzCon can be, but also allowing developers to focus on games to come. Does this mean the end of this annual convention? Nothing is less certain, but we can expect big changes in the way projects are presented in the future.
The first BlizzCon was 16 years ago, and so much has changed since [...] Whatever the event looks like in the future [...] We are committed to ongoing communication with our players, and we believe that BlizzCon will play an important role in this area in the future. We can't wait to see what we do with this event when we revisit it in the future. As announced in the press release, we will have to wait a while before knowing more about what is behind this new version of BlizzCon. However, we are entitled to wonder if this cancellation is not due to the scandals that the studio has had to deal with for several days. As a reminder, some high-ranking members of society have been accused of sexual harassment, these acts having taken place precisely during certain BlizzCon. Perhaps the studio didn't want to add fuel to the fire by maintaining this annual event.
