Les piranhas fished in summer, between the months of june and september in the northern hemisphere, and the months of december and march in the southern hemisphere. You will generally find them during the day as well as late at night, between 9 a.m. and 16 p.m., then 21 p.m. and 4 a.m. To have a chance of catching them, you will have to fish in the river. Piranhas are very little distinguishable from other fish because of their small size (2rd size out of 6 in total).
If you catch them, you can resell them 2 Bells, or donate them to the museum if you catch them for the first time!
How to catch rare fish on Animal Crossing?
To have a better chance of getting rare fish, we advise you to go to mystery islands ! These are usually good places to catch rare fish, like sturgeon or golden trout for example. You can also try to get some with bait, but the success rate is lower. You can craft bait by finding clams in the sand!
