In winter, you can craft a lot of furniture and items using different flakes ! But for that, you must first be able find those snowflakes, and know when you can find it. The flakes will be on your island from December 11 to February 24 if you are in the northern hemisphere, and June 11 to August 24 for the southern hemisphere. You will therefore have almost three months to capture as many of them as possible and be able to craft all the furniture of your choice using these flakes.
To get it, two solutions available to you: you can first capture the flakes that you see flying on your island using your net. You will regularly see them flying, and it is not very difficult to catch them!
The second solution is make a Yetiti, the game's snowman, using snowballs. Once alive, this one will give you a big snowflake per day, until it has completely melted!
