When playing online, one to three players can use a single console to play with one of their friends online. Mario Party Superstars' multiplayer contrasts sharply with Super Mario Party, which only allowed a maximum of two players to use a single console when playing online. Online games are also saved after each round, meaning players can pause a game and come back to it later.
Local Mario Party Superstars supports one to four players, with PC players filling up all vacant slots in a match, just like they do in online games.
